And when it\u2019s time to work, you need to be able to trust those vehicles to keep your drivers on the road and be an effective part of your workforce.<\/p>\n<p>One easy way to put trust in your fleet is by having the right vehicle for each job in the first place. Sounds simple, but as your business evolves, you may find yourself with outdated vehicles that no longer align with job responsibilities. When was the last time you took stock of your vehicles?<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s take a real-world look into how misalignment between vehicle specifications and job responsibilities can get expensive.<\/p>\n<h3>Exhausted by Fleet Costs<\/h3>\n<p>We recently observed an escalating trend in operating costs for one of our clients specialising in hospitality management. Their 1,200 vehicle fleet of cutaway, cargo and step vans were experiencing increased wear, and a consequent increase in maintenance spend.<\/p>\n<p>We visited three of the client\u2019s locations to study their van utilisation and understand the root cause of the problem. The Holman team studied details that often get overlooked on a regular working day, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The amount of payload each vehicle was transporting<\/li>\n<li>How employees were distributing cargo loads within the vehicle<\/li>\n<li>The types of vehicles used for each job<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We were able to see that a percentage of improperly used <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.holman.com\/uk\/fleet-management\/\">fleet vehicles<\/a>, shortening their usable lifespan. At the same time, several vehicles were underutilised.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Balancing the Scales<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our mission was clear \u2013 to keep the fleet size the same, choose the proper chassis for the job, and design upfitting specifications to create better weight distribution. We presented the client with several options for consideration.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n\n\n    <section class=\"quote-testimonial\" id=\"\">\n        <div class=\"inner\">\n            <div class=\"quote-testimonial-quote\">\n                <div class=\"body-1\"><p>After reviewing Holman\u2019s recommendations, the client decided to move forward with a two-prong approach:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Replacing the current walk-in vans with a heavier MAM specification and ordering more than 150 new units<\/li>\n<li>Revising cutaway van specifications to include new interior folding shelving and applying this new design to approximately 20 units<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n            <\/div>\n            <div class=\"quote-testimonial-author\">\n                                <div class=\"quote-testimonial-text\">\n                    <h6 class=\"headline-6\"> <\/h6>\n                                    <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n        <style>.quote-testimonial{margin:25px 0 !important;} .quote-testimonial .inner{padding:25px 0 !important;}\n        @media (max-width: 1300px){.quote-testimonial{margin:25px 0 !important;} .quote-testimonial .inner{padding:25px 0 !important;}}\n        <\/style>\n    <\/section>\n\n\n    <section class=\"wysiwyg\" id=\"\">\n        <div class='inner'>\n            <p>While the size of the new vehicles didn\u2019t shift dramatically, the new weight and shelving options improved the weight distribution within each vehicle and across the entire fleet.<\/p>\n<p>Although upgrading to walk-in vans with a higher MAM involved a higher <a href=\"https:\/\/uk.holman.com\/uk\/fleet-management\/acquisition-and-disposal\/\">acquisition<\/a> cost, the increased capacity means that the vehicles will no longer suffer from damage and resulting downtime caused by overloading.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take the Load Off<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the weight issues resolved, Holman\u2019s client is excited to move into the future together. We\u2019re now working on a collaboration that will evaluate fuel options to enhance their new and improved fleet further, making them more efficient and adding even more value for the long run.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easier than you think to build results into your fleet.
